It’s Trinity Sunday! A day when preachers all over the world are running, ducking, and/or hiding from addressing this tricky and tenuous doctrine.
However, we at Common Table are unafraid. We will handle it– as we do so many other challenges– together. Most particularly the Gospel reading about the ‘Great Commission’, which we’ll explore in some unconventional ways: as an invitation to doubt, as a critique of modern definitions of discipleship, and as a deep assurance of ‘God with us’. It’s less a bunch of marching orders toward aggressive evangelism, and more a winsome invitation into a beloved community. (And yes, the Trinity.)
We hope you’ll bring your voice, with your insights and perspectives, this Sunday morning at 10:15. We’ll be meeting at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, VA. Looking forward to it!
PS. Don’t forget about BOOK CLUB, aka Emmaline’s swanky garden party, TONIGHT at 7pm. ‘Tattoos on the Heart’ is an excellent read, and it’ll make an excellent discussion, even if you haven’t yet read it.
PPS. Please make plans to attend our meeting for community discernment, when we’ll take stock of where we are and where we might go forward as a community. It’ll be in our regular time and space at Jammin’ Java next Sunday, June 18.
